Gus Macker — thank you to the committee
When you arrive at our Newaygo County Gus Macker tournament, we hope you notice the spacious court layout, the food trucks tempting your taste buds, the Macker mascot bringing the energy, and the officials ready to tip off another unforgettable weekend.
What you don't see are the people who quietly made every one of those moments possible.
While you experience two days of basketball, laughter, and community, our committee has spent the last year pouring their hearts into making it happen.
Countless evenings after work, meetings, phone calls, text messages, and last-minute problem-solving all happened long before the first basketball ever hit the pavement.
They volunteer their time without expecting applause or recognition.
They do it because they care deeply about this community.
This week, we gathered around a nacho bar from Sober Eats to celebrate another tournament and reflect on the journey.
We laughed about the unexpected moments, shared stories from the weekend, and realized something pretty special.
Thanks to this group, this was our smoothest tournament yet.
Hosting a national tournament that rotates between three different communities is no small task, yet this team makes it look effortless.
When challenges come up, they don't ask whose job it is, they simply step in.
They lift each other up during the long days, celebrate the small victories, and somehow always find a reason to laugh along the way.
So next year, if you see someone wearing a local Event Staff shirt, take a moment to tell them you're having a great time.
That simple "thank you" is worth more than they will ever admit.
It's the reminder that every hour they gave, every problem they solved, and all the missed hours they could of been golfing mattered.
To our committee: thank you for believing in this event, in each other, and in Newaygo County.
Because of you, thousands of people leave with memories they'll never forget.
And knowing this crew...
they're already dreaming up ways to make 2027 even better.
With endless gratitude, thank you to our incredible committee: Dale Richardson, Kirk Rider, Jake & Annie Swinehart, Mike, Jen & Cam Espinoza, Ryan Swinehart, Aric Booth, Chad Swinehart and Jazmin Vanderwall.
