June 2023

Late May / June / July 2023 Chamber Chat

Talent-retention luncheon takeaways, Logging Festival, golf outing recap, and mid-year new member welcome.

Business Resource Quarterly Luncheon

Mitzy Taylor offered guidance on acquiring and retaining talent. Main takeaway: by focusing on retention, acquiring would not be needed as often. Talent acquisition is time-consuming and expensive, so focus on keeping current folks — outstanding culture, competitive benefits, and flexible work options, especially for younger generations. When fully staffed, managers should still recruit so the pipeline is ready if someone leaves.

September luncheon — Small Biz Health Insurance

September 14, 12:00–1:00 p.m. at The Stream, 1 State Road, Newaygo, 2nd Floor. Presented by Del Hirdes of The Southwick Agency. Lunch provided. All are welcome to RSVP for free.

Next meet-up

Thursday, August 17 at The Commons of Fremont. Closest-to-the-pin contest and light appetizers from Brew Works. Three ways to win a $250 event sponsorship of your choice just for attending.

Logging Festival and golf

Logging Festival details, parade, baking contest, auto show, and Little Miss Lumberjill / Little Mr Lumberjack pageant. Golf outing recap: 92 participants, 18 holes, a few lost balls, and a great day out of the office. Memorial Weekend vendor market: 105 vendors, 6 food trucks, 8 member businesses.
